Xubuntu 17.10 32 bit has black screen blocking desktop on installed OS

No fix so far after lots of searching. We ended up installing Xubuntu 17.04
32 bit and then running 'sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade' . What
is the solution for Xubuntu 17.10 32 bit? Thanks
